What is a breast implant exchange?

Posted July 30, 2021 in BREAST IMPLANT EXCHANGE

Woman measuring her breastDid you get breast implants years ago? Are you unhappy with how they look now? The good news is that, if you are no longer happy with your breast implants, you don’t have to live with being dissatisfied. A breast implant exchange can help!

Who can benefit from a breast implant exchange?

This procedure, which is simply a removal or replacement of breast implants, can be helpful for many patients. Aging, weight fluctuations, and hormonal factors can all change how your breasts look, even if you have implants. Or, maybe you had your implants placed by a surgeon who just plain didn’t do a good job, or maybe you have decided you would like smaller or larger implants (or maybe you don’t want implants anymore at all). Over time implants can shift and breast tissue can change – a breast implant exchange procedure can help with these issues, too. A breast implant exchange can be done for health reasons as well. It is an option for women who have a leak in their implants or even an implant that has deflated.

What is the procedure for a breast implant exchange?

The first step is to visit your plastic surgeon, to discuss your concerns about your implants and why you are considering a breast implant exchange. From there, he or she will develop a customized treatment plan for you so that you will be able to get the most from your procedure. This treatment plan may include the recommendation for further surgery if you are having the implants removed, for example in order to tighten excess skin.

This procedure can typically be performed under general anesthesia, and will usually take less than 2 hours. Afterwards, you will have some pain, discomfort, and swelling for about a week, and it may take you that long to get back to work and your normal daily activities.

If you are unhappy with the results of a previous breast implant procedure, there is something you can do about it. Specialists in Plastic Surgery in Raleigh, North Carolina, will be happy to discuss with you what your issues are and how they can help. Call (919) 785-0505 for a consultation today!
