Dermaplaning in Raleigh, NC
Our skin takes a beating as time goes by (especially on the face), resulting in a duller, drier, and tired complexion. These changes can leave us wanting.
Fortunately, there are many cosmetic procedures available to help exfoliate your skin so that you can take back a smoother, brighter, and healthier look. While many people have heard of microdermabrasion, there is another effective option that allows for the same kind of stunning results: dermaplane.
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive procedure that gently removes dead skin cells, dirt, unwanted hair, and peach fuzz, all while rejuvenating your overall facial appearance. Regardless of your age or skin type, dermaplane is a safe and effective procedure that can help revitalize your skin to give you the healthier facial aesthetic you’ve always wanted.

How Should I Prepare for Dermaplane Exfoliation?
Like any plastic surgery or cosmetic procedure, your consultation is key to ensuring that you achieve optimal results from your dermaplane procedure. At your consultation, you will be able to discuss your skin concerns and goals, and your provider can develop a treatment plan to help you look your best.
During the week before your dermaplaning procedure, it is important that you:
- Stop using any chemical exfoliation
- Stay out of direct sunlight
- Do not shave
- Avoid using any product with retinol
- Use an antibacterial product on your skin
- Drink plenty of water
How Is Dermaplaning Performed?
Dermaplaning is a simple, painless, and effective procedure that takes only 20 to 30 minutes to complete. This means that you can have your dermaplane procedure during your lunch break!
At your appointment, your provider will use a specialized blade that looks similar to a surgical scalpel. The tool (known as a dermatome) will be held at a 45-degree angle from your skin and will then be swept gently over the treatment area, similar to the motion of shaving. This blade will remove the upper layer of dead skin to allow the healthier and more vibrant skin to show.
Besides removing the troublesome skin, dermaplaning also helps to stimulate collagen production, which is responsible for the strength and health of your skin.
Can I Combine My Dermaplane With Other Procedures?
Many patients choose to combine their dermaplane procedure with other non-surgical treatments like the Diamond Glow facial, dermal fillers, various types of facials and BOTOX® Cosmetic, XEOMIN®, or Dysport® injections (injectable neurotoxins).
By combining procedures, you are able to achieve a more complete and balanced skin rejuvenation.
After a Dermaplane Procedure
-
Besides giving you transformative skin renewal, dermaplaning requires no downtime. You will be able to return to your normal, daily activities immediately following your procedure.
-
Though rare, all cosmetic procedures, including dermaplaning, present risk. These risks will be discussed with you during the consultation, and can include:
- Discoloration of the skin
- Infection
- Scarring
To reduce your risks, be sure to follow our provider’s instructions carefully.
-
You can expect to see immediate results with dermaplaning, including brighter and healthier-looking skin.
Though every person’s skin is different, most patients require maintenance treatment sessions every three to four weeks. This is because the skin grows and dies off in a cyclical manner, which means that there will always be dead skin needing to be removed after several weeks.
-
It is extremely rare for dermaplaning to leave scars. In fact, dermaplaning is meant to help reduce the presence of scars on your skin. However, as with all cosmetic treatments and procedures, there is a chance for scarring.
