Is Ultherapy the Face Lift Recipe for You?

Posted September 24, 2013 in Plastic Surgery

WHAT IS ULTHERAPY?

Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound to target the same muscle that plastic surgeons use when we’re doing a face lift. Under ultrasound control, we can visualize the muscle, dermis, and skin and use target “Thermal Coagulation Points” to stimulate deep neocollagenesiss and rejuvenation. This will in turn create an improved tightness and mild lift to the skin.

How can Ultherapy be used in your aesthetic care plan?

When someone comes to our office they enjoy the assortment of options we can offer, surgical and non-surgical. We’ve found that Ultherapy works extremely well to meet patients’ specific needs in combination with other therapies already being offered in the practice such as injectables, fat injections, and laser treatments. The reason behind this synergy is the holistic approach to the aging face this combination represents. There are essentially three discreet components to facial aging. One results from photodamage and environmental factors manifesting as pigment problems and fine lines. Second is volume loss, which happens in a age-related predictable pattern. Thirdly, one can get sagging of tissue. Ultherapy is designed for this specific patient to correct tissue laxity and provide an overall natural tightening. Laser skin therapy simply adds another dynamic, and the overall effect is far greater than the sum of the parts.

Will Ultherapy replace face lift surgery?

The simple answer is no. Lifting and tightening with Ultherapy will only work if you need a modest amount of lifting and tightening. If you need a fac lift, you still need a face lift.  Face lift surgery will always be the gold standard option to provide the best facial rejuvenation result. Face lift surgery corrects two of the three components of facial aging: volume loss and tissue laxity. The third component, skin quality, can be improved with laser therapy and/or Ultherapy.

When will I notice the results of Ultherapy?

The skin tightening and lifting results will be noticeable around 4 months after the procedure. An initial period of swelling followed by gradual improvement in the skin tone will occur. We like to caution patients that one can expect no more than 30% or 40% of a surgical result.
