If you’ve lost a lot of weight lately you may be lamenting that your legs aren’t as shapely as they should be – after a lot of weight loss it can be very difficult to get rid of that extra fat and skin. A thigh lift can help.

Who can benefit from a thigh lift?

A thigh lift (or “thighplasty”) involves removing sagging skin from the thighs. This excess skin may be left over after a dramatic loss of weight, but a thigh lift is also an option for people who have sagging skin from the natural effects of aging.  Thighplasty can be performed to get rid of skin on the outer or inner portion of the thigh.

What is the procedure for a thigh lift?

Thigh lift surgery typically takes less than 3 hours and can be performed under general anesthesia. Incisions will be made in such a way that scarring is easily concealed, and excess skin and fat are removed. The tissue is reshaped and the skin is stretched, and the incisions are closed. A thigh lift is often combined with a tummy tuck and/or a butt lift, and can also be a great addition to a mommy makeover.

Afterwards, patients are encouraged to begin moving and walking as soon as they can to get the blood moving and to promote healing. There may be some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, and pain medication may be prescribed. The total time to recover typically takes about 6 to 8 weeks. You should be able to go back to work within 2 weeks after the procedure, but you should avoid strenuous activities for several weeks.

Results of a thigh lift can last for many years, but it is important to stay in shape – keep exercising and maintain a healthy diet so that you can help keep your legs looking their best.

A thigh lift can give you the shapely, lovely legs that you have worked so hard for with years of dieting and exercise.
