Preparing for Plastic Surgery

Woman consulting her doctor about neck painOne of the most important steps you will take in deciding to have plastic surgery is the initial consultation you have. During the consultation, you will meet with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons and discuss your goals. You have an opportunity to get to know your doctor, establish trust, and ask questions. Your physician also gets the opportunity to ensure that you are a good candidate for plastic surgery and talk to you about the procedure, the recovery, and what you can expect afterward.

Physical Health Requirements for Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery, like any other surgery, carries inherent risk. For most procedures, you will be under general anesthesia, which requires you to be in reasonably good health with no serious complications. Serious medical complications like heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes, should be discussed in advance to determine if the procedure is worth the risk.

Mental Health

Having plastic surgery is often a complex decision that impacts your physical and mental wellbeing. We will try to ensure that you have realistic expectations about what plastic surgery can and cannot do for you, and make sure that the surgery you are seeking is something you want and not something you’re being pressured into doing.

Support System

Because recovery times can be as quick as a few days and as long as a few weeks, we will ensure that you have a sufficient support system in place to help you during recovery. In most cases, you will need someone to accompany you to the surgery who can drive you home afterward, and you may need someone to stay with you for the first few days after your surgery, depending on the type of procedure you have done.
