Are You Tired of Being Asked If You’re Tired?

Young woman with surgery lines around her eyesDo you often get questions about whether or not you’re tired or inquiries about whether or not you’re getting enough sleep? As you age, the delicate skin above and below your eyes can become puffy and droopy, leaving you looking like you haven’t slept in months even if you just got a great night’s sleep. The solution is simple: eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a common surgical procedure in which your plastic surgeon removes excess skin and fatty deposits from the upper eye and surrounding tissue. The procedure results in smoother, more youthful skin contours around the eyes. For some people, it may even improve their vision. For almost everyone, it will make you appear more youthful and vibrant.

Who Should Get Blepharoplasty?

Any person who is struggling with droopy or baggy eyelids, blepharoplasty should be a consideration. If you have bags under the eyes, drooping lower eyelids, loose or excess skin hanging down from the upper eyelids, obscured vision, puffiness around upper eyelids, or crepe paper wrinkles around the lower eyelids, blepharoplasty can make a significant difference. The best candidates are non-smokers in good health. It is also beneficial if you do not have any other eye conditions.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

Blepharoplasty is a surgery performed under local or general anesthetic. Drops are added to the eyes to protect them; you may be given additional medicine to help you relax during the procedure. Work usually begins on the upper lid first. Your plastic surgeon will carefully cut along the fold of the eyelid, remove the excess skin and fat, and close the incision. For the lower lid, your surgeon will cut just below the lash line. A brow lift is a common combination procedure added to this surgery.
