4 Ways to Make Sure Your Eyes Aren’t Aging You

The fine and delicate skin around our eyes is one of the first places we show our age. Fine lines, wrinkles, under eye hollows, and puffy under eye bags can dramatically affect our overall appearance. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to reduce or eliminate signs of aging around the eyes.

Problem: Crow’s feet

The Fix: Botox®

Crow’s feet are caused by repetitive facial movements and expressions like squinting and smiling, and can appear as early as in our 20s and 30s. Botox works by relaxing the muscles that cause the crinkles at the edges of our eyes to form, and prevents the muscles from tensing. As the lines soften, you will see an improvement almost immediately.

Bonus! Not only does Botox lessen the appearance of current wrinkles, it can help prevent them from forming in the first place.

Problem: Under eye hollows

The Fix: Dermal Fillers

When it comes to under eye hollows, volume loss is the culprit. Soft hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane® add a natural fullness to plump and erase dark, sunken hollows. By softening the transition between the lower eyelid and the upper cheek, dermal fillers are able to recreate a youthful contour. Be careful when choosing an injector—injecting under the eye is an advanced technique and should only be performed by a well-trained and experienced injector.

Problem: Crepe-like skin around the eyes

The Fix: Laser Resurfacing

Near-constant use wears down the collagen and elastin fibers responsible for keeping our eyes taut. Specialists in Plastic Surgery’s Pixel® CO2 is gentle enough to be used on the delicate skin around the eyes and eyelids. Laser resurfacing treatments soften the textural changes by removing the outer layers of dull, damaged, and dead skin cells to expose the healthier, smoother, and more supple layers of new skin. In addition to revealing new skin cells, laser treatments like Pixelâ also stimulate the skin’s natural collagen production to help tighten crepe-like skin.

Problem: Puffiness

The Fix: Eyelid Surgery

Minimally invasive treatments can only do so much. Patients with more advanced aging may need the help of one of our board certified plastic surgeons. Persistent puffiness, pronounced sagging, and excess skin are best improved through blepharoplasty. More commonly known as an eyelid surgery, blepharoplasty addresses loose and excess skin and fat.
