Understanding CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting has proven itself a powerful tool in the ever-frustrating battle of the bulge. Targeting otherwise hard-to-treat areas, CoolSculpting effectively and permanently destroys pockets of stubborn fat. A favorite with our patients, at Specialists in Plastic Surgery, CoolSculpting has quickly become one of our most popular body contouring procedures.

For men and women considering CoolSculpting, comfort is often at the forefront of their decision making process. Often described as a painless procedure, we do like to warn our patients that each individual body reacts differently. While a seamlessly enjoyable procedure for some, others may find CoolSculpting can cause slight discomfort.

The CoolSculpting Treatment Itself

As a non-surgical treatment, CoolSculpting is far less invasive than traditional body contouring procedures such as liposuction. For some, the first 5 to 15 minutes of the CoolSculpting treatment may be somewhat uncomfortable as the vacuum suctions the skin and fat and as initially cooled. Luckily, as you settle in, the CoolSculpting procedure becomes increasingly comfortable and you are able to relax. Many of our patients enjoy their treatment time as it allows them a break from their otherwise busy lives.

What to Expect Following CoolSculpting

Similarly, while there is minimal recovery and little downtime necessary, some of our patients do experience a few days of tenderness. This is often described as a similar sensation as to the soreness experienced the day after a strenuous workout. Also, do not be alarmed if you notice residual bruising, swelling, and a lingering tingling or numbness—your body will naturally heal within the days following your CoolSculpting procedure.

A so-called “lunchtime procedure”, CoolSculpting allows you to return to your daily routine immediately following your treatment. That said, some of our patients do like to schedule their procedure at a time that permits them to take a short break afterwards. This drastically differs from other, more invasive body contouring procedures that are far more disruptive to one’s lifestyle—often involving weeks of necessary downtime and recovery. Likewise, other procedures often require one to wear post-surgical garments and drain tubes to be placed. With CoolSculpting, no such actions are needed.
