Clinical Skin Rejuvenation
Aging can make it difficult to maintain a smooth and clear complexion–especially given the fact that your facial skin is routinely exposed to UV radiation and may also be prone to acne, rashes, allergic reactions, and injuries.
We offer numerous skincare treatments, using powerful ingredients like tretinoin (Retin-A) and glycolic acids, that can help you eliminate or soften skin imperfections to achieve better skin tone and texture.
Who Should Get Skincare Treatments?
Before you decide to have a medical grade skin treatment of any kind, consider your goals and expectations, and discuss them with us during your visit.
Tretinoin and glycolic acid can treat:
- Fine facial wrinkles
- Blotchy pigmented areas
- Effects of sun exposure
- Rough, sun-damaged skin
Medical grade skincare treatments can give you smoother, brighter skin, but will not reduce deep scars, flaws, or severe wrinkles. Those conditions, however, may be treatable through laser skin resurfacing, dermaplaning, or a chemical peel. If you are pregnant or nursing, please inform us, as you may not be a good candidate for certain skincare products.
What to Expect From Skincare Treatments
Before we prescribe a skincare regimen, we ask about your medical history and conduct a routine examination. Be open in discussing your treatment goals and don’t hesitate to ask us any questions or express any concerns. If you’re having a surgical procedure in conjunction with your skin treatment, we’ll explain the process in detail, including the steps, benefits, possible side effects, and cost. The initial product application, along with a review of your home routine, can usually be performed in our office.
To apply a product like Retin-A, you wash your skin thoroughly and apply a pea-sized dab of the cream or gel. This should be done every night before you go to bed, and a moisturizer is applied once or twice daily. A gentle formula is used in the beginning stages, especially if you are young or have a fair complexion. After your skin becomes accustomed to treatment, you may be switched to a stronger formula. This routine is typically used for about one year, after which you can switch to a less frequent maintenance routine.
Glycolic acid products are available as a cream or facial wash. They work by sloughing away dry, sun-damaged skin on your face. During your visit, we’ll give you a lesson on how to apply these products and continue your skincare routine at home. In most cases, glycolic acid is applied twice daily, either by smoothing on the cream or using the facial wash. We may adjust the strength of the product or its frequency of use after evaluating your results during follow-up visits.
After Skincare Treatments
It’s normal to experience redness, irritation, itching, stinging, or skin dryness once you begin to use medical grade skincare products. These symptoms gradually disappear as your skin adjusts to the new routine. You will need to consistently use sunblock to protect yourself from UV light, and you may need to discontinue use of certain cosmetics.
Results vary from person to person. With continued use of medical grade products, you will begin to see subtle improvements in the texture and tone of your skin. Users of tretinoin and glycolic acid see a rosy glow emerge during the first few months, followed by smoother skin, fewer fine lines, and smaller pores. After about six months, many people say their wrinkles are barely visible and that age spots have faded significantly. You will probably realize that maintaining your new look is easier than you expected, as the routine becomes a natural part of your morning or evening ritual.
