Sculptra

What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is a synthetic injectable made of poly-L-lactic acid, which is biocompatible and biodegradable. Sculptra® is used to smooth away wrinkles and augment facial features. It provides gradual skin thickness and restoration of fat to treat indentations, sunken cheeks and hollow eyes.
How does the treatment work?
Sculptra® is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss.
What are the results?
Sculptra® shapes facial contours providing a fuller, youthful looking face.
What to expect after treatment:
After treatment, some redness, swelling, pain and bruising may occur at the treated area. These symptoms usually disappear quickly; however, sometimes they may last several weeks. To reduce swelling, an ice pack can be applied after treatment.
How soon will results appear?
Results take time to appear, as Sculptra® gradually corrects your skin.
How long does a Sculptra® treatment last?
Sculptra® takes about half an hour depending on the amount of injections required and the size of the treatment area.
Are there any possible side effects?
There are some possible side effects including swelling, pain, itching and discoloration at the injection site.
Who are candidates for Sculptra®?
Those who want to look younger and more refreshed and have realistic expectations are candidates. Sculptra® is especially beneficial for those with immunodeficiency diseases.
How does the treatment feel?
The treatment is injected through a very thin needle. A topical anesthetic or local block may be applied to ensure comfort.
How long do the results last?
Results can last up to two years for some patients. Results are dependent on levels of facial activity and stress.
What are the alternative treatments?
There are other injectables such as Restylane®, Hylaform®, Radiesse® and Juvaderm®, which also require multiple treatments to maintain results. Fat transfer may also be an alternative.
Instructions for before treatment:
Tell your doctor about any allergies you have to food, drugs or environmental elements, any serious medical conditions and all medications you are taking (both prescription and non-prescription). Carefully follow any instructions your doctor gives you regarding eating, drinking and smoking.
Instructions for after treatment:
Resume normal activities, but be prepared for some slight redness or swelling.Apply cool compresses to reduce swelling if desired. Unlike other fillers, Sculptra® should be massaged gently for the first couple of days.
