Santa Fe, New Mexico, I thrived in an area rich in culture and art. During my years as a surgeon doing mastectomies for cancer patients, my interest in plastic surgery began. At that time I felt like I was not doing my full job as a surgeon when I would perform a mastectomy for cancer and did not "put her back together again." My desire to complete the process moved me into the field of plastic surgery. A surgeon's ability to form 'anew' the shape and feel of a natural looking breast and to carry those skills into other realms of cosmetic surgery such as facelifts, abdominoplasty and liposuction was a natural transfer of skill and expertise. To me, this is the greatest art form we as surgeons can accomplish. Thus, it was only natural that my love of art and my surgical ability to shape, change, augment and transform the human form guided me into the specialty of plastic surgery.
Aesthetic surgery is more than a cosmetic procedure. It is a process that begins with an exchange of ideas. It is imperative that the plastic surgeon listen closely to your wants and desires.
